APRIL 2011. SPANISH VOLUNTEER

My name is Oscar, I'm a Spanish volunteer working for a month in Pondincherry. I'm volunteering at the Mother Teresa's orphanage for mentally and physically challenged children during the mornings were i help the caregivers. I didn't want to miss the chance to give hope to this children and try to make them happy as long as I'm here.
Its really a pleasure to go there everyday!

I'm teaching basic English in an orphanage home supported by Prime Trust during the afternoons and I'm also visiting evening schools whenever i have the chance in order to bring smiles to the children in need.

Its really great the opportunities that they give you to take responsibility and get involve in the projects you like. I meet three more volunteers here in my short time in Pondincherry, and it was nice to share some experiences and time with people from another countries. The place where i stay is really comfortable, and its great to have Internet connection 24 hours a day!

I wish everybody have the same opportunity of feel helpful in this wonderful country! All the best for IVC and the Volunteers!

INDIA

India is the largest democracy in the world, the seventh largest country and the second most populous. From the eternal snows of the Himalayas to the cultivated peninsula of far South, from the deserts of the West to the humid deltas of the East, from the dry heat and cold of the Central Plateau to the cool forest foothills, Indian lifestyles clearly glorify the geography. The food, clothing and habits of an Indian differ in accordance to the place of origin.

Indians believe in sharing happiness and sorrow. A festival or a celebration is never constrained to a family or a home. The whole community or neighbourhood is involved in bringing liveliness to an occasion. Temples were raised to the house the Gods and became the focal point for the community. They also became centres of learning and contributed to the advancement of such arts as sculpture, painting, music and dance.

Ethnically Indians speak different languages, follow different religions, eat the most diverse varieties of food all of which add to the rich Indian culture. The beauty of the Indian people lies in the spirit of tolerance, give-and-take and a composition of cultures that can be compared to a garden of flowers of various colours and shades of which, while maintaining their own entity, lend harmony and beauty to the garden - India!

ABOUT US

Born out of concern for what is the reality of modern India - an increased need to raise Human Development - ‘India Volunteer Care’ was created with one purpose in mind: To bring volunteers into India who have the skill, ability or just the profound willingness, to make a difference in this world. Is that you?

OUR MISION
IVC was created with the aim for making an avenue through which international volunteers can come and offer their services to multitude of NGOs that are desperate for voluntary help – whether it is from skilled or unskilled volunteers.
"Our concern is both for the people we help and the people who help them.”

MOTIVATION
‘By developing links with partner organisations and sharing our knowledge and resources, India Volunteer Care aims create a balance between the need for volunteers and their availability’

Volunteering is a state of mind. It is a willingness to give your time, your energy and your efforts in order to improve the livelihood of others less fortunate than yourself. It is also a willingness to say “Yes, I have something to offer and I want to share it with others”, and “Yes, I want to learn from others in order to develop myself.” Volunteering is a process of sharing and enriching; it’s an exchange.
